Craps offers players several bets that bring the house edge down below 2%. With odds like these, you’d think most gamblers would just stick with the safer wagers like pass line and the come bet. However, safe wagers don’t provide the attractive payouts that people like so players sometimes take the riskier prop bets. But when you start making prop bets, you run the risk of falling for the worst bets in craps. That being said, here is a quick look at the worst craps bets.
Betting on 7
Betting on the dice to turn up 7 is the absolute worst bet you can make in craps. The problem with this wager is that you only have a little over a 14% (1 in 7) chance of rolling 7. However, casinos are only willing to make 5 to 1 payouts (should be 6 to 1) so this hurts your chances of profiting with a 7 bet even more. When you make a 7 bet, you are giving the house a ridiculous 16.7% advantage over you.
Field Bet
The Field Bet is appropriately named because you are given an entire field of numbers to win your wager. If the dice show 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12, you win a Field Bet. However, if 5, 6, 7, or 8 are rolled, you lose. With 7 numbers that can make you a winner as compared to 4 numbers that are losers, you would think this is a pretty good bet. However, you only have a 44.4% chance of seeing a winning number rolled while payouts for winning are even money. All of this combines to give the house over a 5% advantage.
Craps Bet
One more terrible craps wager is the actual Craps bet. A Craps bet forces you to roll a 2, 3, or 12, which only gives you a 1 in 9 chance of winning. Compounding the problem is that casinos only offer a 7 to 1 payout when they should be offering an 8 to 1 payout for Craps bets. In the end, the house has a 11% advantage.
