Every big-time gambler becomes obsessed with beating the house edge at some point in their life. After all, if you can conquer the house edge, then you can conquer gambling. Unfortunately, there aren’t a whole lot of ways to beat the house edge. And even the methods that have been documented are open to debate.
Roulette wheel bias is one such method that many people are still unsure of. If you haven’t heard of wheel bias, it’s when a roulette wheel is supposedly off thus favoring certain numbers more than others. Even the slightest tilt in a roulette wheel could throw it off enough to give a person a 5% to 15% advantage over the casino.
So why doesn’t everybody go around trying to find wheels that are slightly off-balance? Well the main problem with this is that it would take thousands upon thousands of spins to find a biased wheel. This means sitting around a casino recording every single spin of different wheels just to find one that is biased. On top of this, most wheels are tested to ensure that there is no bias so the house keeps their edge.
But even with the skepticism involving wheel bias, many people are still convinced that it can be done. Spanish gambler Gonzalo Garcia-Pelayo is proof of this since he was able to find a few biased wheels and take casinos for millions of dollars. Sure Garcia-Pelayo got kicked out of a few casinos, but by the time he did, he’d made several millions of dollars through exploiting wheel bias. To take advantage of wheel bias, Garcia-Pelayo recorded hundreds of thousands of spins to find biased wheels. He then bet on the biased numbers to reap in profits.
He is living proof that wheel bias is indeed real. However, it’s not easy to do and even if you do attempt to find biased wheels, there’s no guarantee that you won’t lose lots of money before making it.
