Couple Gambles Away Their Parental Rights

There is a couple in California that puts a whole new meaning to the term “degenerate gambler.” How far someone is willing to go to gamble is a good way to judge their integrity. I’d say lying or stealing would have been a better alternative for this couple that obviously suffers from a gambling addiction.

It was clear that Thuan Huy Nguyen and Panfila Phu Phan couldn’t find a babysitter for their 7-week old baby since they left it in their car for 2 hours or more while they were living it up in the casino. A patrolling security guard found the baby in the parking garage and phoned the authorities right away. After the police arrived, they were able to find out how long the baby had been waiting for the negligent parents to return; the baby’s parents were arrested.

Nguyen and Phan were both given a jail sentence of 60 days by a Place County Superior Court judge. It’s a shame that it took 2 months for the ruling, but the judge added a bonus package to their punishment by making them attend a parenting class. They’ll be judged to see if they are still fit to be parents. Even if they somehow come out of this deemed “fit” to care for their child, they still have the four years of probation to look forward to.

Hopefully they have learned their lesson and don’t have any more children. If they pass the parenting class, they might be awarded custody of the baby in the four years of probation.

Maybe the judge should have thrown in a couple gamblers anonymous sessions too. After all, it was gambling that caused the parents to leave the kid in the car anyways. Let’s get to the root of their problems here!
